Spillway System and Reservoir Development of the Lower Seletar Dam for PUB

Reservoirs are an essential aspect of Singapore’s ecosystem, integrating drains and canals with the surrounding areas aim to create beautiful landscapes under Singapore’s active, beautiful clean waters programme. For the creation of an estuarial reservoir between Ang Mo Kio and Yishun New Town, PUB chose to partner with Loh & Loh Construction.

Scope of Works

The reservoir was created by constructing a dam across the mouth of Sungei Seletar. The Sungei bed was dredged to deepen and remove layers of saline marine clay, then deposited to banks for the subsequent development of a golf course and garden.

Spillway System and Reservoir Development

As the construction area was a mangrove swamp, the project involved several significant challenges – including the inaccessibility of the area, as well as dealing with other difficult site conditions. We overcame these obstacles with a well-thought out plan that involved the use of equipment that was specially fabricated for this project.

Over the last few decades, Loh & Loh has developed and constructed several dams and reservoirs for PUB, securing our nation’s future water requirements.
